this morning it was hard to get up and work out. i finally got motivated enough to start around 11. once i started i was doing really well, feeling good. about 20 minutes through the workout, i began an exercise where you’re in plank position and kick your leg behind you. in mid kick i felt the most horrific pain EVER which took my breath away. it took about 2 minutes to get out of that position and sitting where i could not even bend my leg. i already knew it was my lovely sciatic nerve. no other pain takes my breath away and makes me stop dead in a movement. along with the pinching of this nerve, i also pulled a muscle in my inner thigh simultaneously. at this point, it hurts to sit, stand, and lie down. i’m walking with a limp and i’m pretty much just grumpy. i hope that it gets better VERY soon considering i have to work tomorrow evening and i also don’t want to have to already start taking extra days off of exercise. i’m not gonna lose any weight if i can’t even walk!
i guess today i will rest it, take some meds, and put heat on it. and hope it heals soon!
and on a much better note…
merry christmas eve! i hope that it’s wonderful and that you all remember why we celebrate…our Saviour, Jesus Christ!

So because I’m using this blog as a rant/rave spot for my new “journey” as I keep calling it, I feel compelled to write whenever something sucks really bad or I do something I’m really proud of.
Proud moment of the day:
Since I was awake at 6am and couldn’t sleep, I decided to be proactive and do my Jillian Michaels dvd for the day. Now it’s 7:15 am, my face is beat red and I’m sore as heck but I am SO excited that I’ve already made it through. I wouldn’t have had time in the day otherwise. Hooray for me!
Sorry if these posts get boring at all, but they’re really helping me to realize where I’m at. Keep reading and I’m sure they’ll get more exciting as we go!
God Bless
and have a wonderful day!!!!!

There’s no way to get fit, healthy or lose weight without exercise. I have been working out on and off for the majority of my 20 years of existence. Sometimes I love it and sometimes it makes me want to die. In the case of my new “plan”, I’m starting on the wanting-to-die-side of things. One of the most inspiring people to me is fitness trainer Jillian Michaels. She has trained numerous contestants on The Biggest Loser and has been super successful. I began my new journey by reading her book “Winning by Losing”. The thing that hit me most was when she confessed that she was 50 lbs overweight when she was a teenager. She made over her life through martial arts and fitness and is now on a mission to help others struggling with the same things she did. That was when I knew she was going to be the one to kick my butt into shape. Most trainers have been skinny their whole life, they never had to go through the physical and emotional battle of being overweight. But knowing that she has first-hand experience, to me, makes her 1,000 times more credible. Her book is focused on the 3 s’: self, science and sweat. In “self” she talks about the psychological aspect of weight loss and how to prepare your mind for what you want. In “science” she talks about metabolism: how to increase it, what kind of foods work best for you, calorie counting, and other aspects of nutrition. In “sweat”, it’s all about exercise. Her program uses strength training circuits which make them aerobic/strength training workouts in one. In other words, you’re using weights and building muscle while keeping your heart rate elevated the whole time. You literally NEVER stop moving. The benefits of this are HUGE! It increases your metabolism and makes you burn twice as many calories and increases the after-burn effect (continuing to burn calories long after you’ve stopped working out). What I love is that I don’t have to spend 45 minutes doing cardio and 45 more minutes doing weight training. I get it all in one 45 minute time frame. But it’s no walk in the park. I bought the DVD’s that go with her book. I did the first one today which works the front of your body. Tomorrow is the back. It kicked my butt harder than anything I have ever ever ever done in my whole life. At one point I literally thought that my heart was going to stop and/or explode. But the feeling of accomplishment when I finished that workout was awesome. If I stick to this and fight through the pain, I am gonna be one hot mama!!
So that’s my super long blog for today. And p.s. my muscles hurt even from typing at this point. That’s a good sign.

I have decided once and for all that I am going to kick my butt into shape and lose some weight! It’s been a long time coming, a lot of different things I’ve tried that I haven’t been able to stick to. But now, I’ve found out what works for me and what doesn’t and I’m ready to go! I’m going into this thinking of it as a ‘lifestyle change’ versus a ‘diet’ because it’s going to be long term. As a nurse, I see certain disease processes and the things people go through when they aren’t healthy. It’s not always due to lifestyle choices that they’ve made but a lot of the time it is preventable. I want to be my happiest and healthiest and now is the time to do it.
I am going to be updating my blog (hopefully I remember!!) along with my different struggles and accomplishments along the way. I feel that it will help me to be held more accountable because I will feel like other people are kind of with me on the journey. I know this isn’t going to be easy…it never has been. But I know that I am worth it and I’ve never been more ready!
Feel free to drop me a line…whether it’s encouragement, a tip, or just a hello. It’s nice to know who I have behind me.
Thanks for reading…and wish me luck!

I was inspired this evening to begin my new blogging journey with an ode to my friend Megh’s house, and all of the wonderful things that were there tonight. I had a great time hanging out with her and Marla, and all of the others that were originally there. Following are my favorite things about my adventure to Megh’s:

this thing boils H20 in like record time! it was fascinating! i need one

this seems like the kind of thing i need to make my life easier. tea/coffee in a matter of minutes. it’s craziness.

the chai tea…you cannot go wrong here. and not to mention during the process of making the chai tea i learned that sugar is BLEACHED (!) and that you can buy it au naturel at your friendly neighborhood TOPS

and why would you not love this floor? not only is it totally sweet looking, but you can do a killer moonwalk on it as well. hee-hee (mj style)

their fridge has so many different buttons and contraptions it’s crazy! it tells you the temperate and everything. that’s just snazzy.

i randomly found this spaghetti scooper in the pot and it turned out to be a dinosaur. no wonder i was drawn to it.

i can’t forget malcolm. my cuddle buddy.

megh’s delicious hummus dip. mmm. sooo good

the lovely hostess! she’s the best

amazing!! the 3 m’s. xoxoxo
So, today was just a good day off. I slept in. I got a massage. I got to hang out with some awesome people. And I also bought some new music. You should check this stuff out. It’s ridiculously good.

That’s the end of my first new blog. There will be many more ahead I’m certain. God Bless! Oh and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
